Learn How to Quit Drinking & Overcome Alcoholism

Alcohol Abuse and the Law of Attraction

If you have seen or heard of The Secret movie, or if you're simply interested in the Law of Attraction, you may be wondering if there is a way to use this approach to help you quit drinking alcohol.

The main idea behind The Secret, and many other New Thought ideas, is that your thoughts are responsible for how your life has turned out - whether you were aware of them at the time, or not. Furthermore, it's not only what you think about, or focus on, that's important - but you also need to focus on what you DO want, instead of what you DON'T want - in order to get the results that are beneficial for your life.

For example, if you are against the War in Iraq, and consider yourself as someone who is anti-war, you would actually be better served to be pro-peace - and spend your time and energy finding ways to promote peace. Otherwise much of your efforts in the "anti-war movement" will have actually brought more attention, focus and energy to that which you are fighting against.

Is the Law of Attraction Real?

The Law of Attraction is not a magical, mysterious force that can be used to attract whatever you focus on into your life. But, that's not to say that it isn't real either, for it is.

The Law of Attraction works, not because it's magical, but because our minds are so powerful that whenever we strongly and consistently FOCUS on something - to the point where it becomes our predominant desire - we ALSO begin to adopt the conscious and subconscious thoughts, words and actions that help BRING ABOUT that which we are focusing on.

How Does This Apply to Alcohol Abuse?

When it comes to alcohol addiction, your approach should be to phrase your thoughts in terms of what you WANT TO HAVE in your life, and NOT what you want to AVOID.
Thus, do not let your mind primarily dwell on the many reasons to avoid drinking - such as how in the past you had gotten sick or wasted money or lost a job - because that puts your attention, focus and energy on that which you do not want in your life.
Instead, focus your mind on what you WANT to have in your life ... which is energy, health, happiness, money, spending time with your family, etc. Whatever those reasons might be, find a way to focus on the positive things that you WANT to have in your life.

Try This:

1. Make a list of all the bad things about your abuse of alcohol.
2. Make a list about all the good things about your being sober.
3. Look at the list of bad things, and acknowledge that you do not want them in your life.
4. Now throw the "bad things" list away. You no longer need this.
5. Look at the list of good things, and verify that these are the things you DO want in your life.
6. Now FOCUS on the good things, study them, and commit them to memory.
7. Every day take 5 or 10 minutes to mediate and focus your mind on the good things you want in your life.

The Bottom Line

To use the Law of Attraction to help you overcome alcohol abuse it is essential that you constantly focus on how you want to be healthier, and on all the good things you want to come into your life. When you do this you are actually creating the circumstances to bring the very things you desire into your life.

When you constantly focus your time, energy and enthusiasm on what you want, the things you DON'T want will become smaller and smaller - until they no longer have a part of your life. The things that you DO want will simply overwhelm and conquer the things you don't want. Remember, focus on what you want to have, not on what you want to avoid.

The approach described above is a little bit different than the approaches in some of the other articles on this site. But, you may find it very useful for exactly that reason.
And that's the most important thing: try and find something that works for YOU, and helps YOU overcome your addiction to alcohol. For once you do that, I guarantee that you will be healthier and happier than you have been in a long, long time.
