There are some questions about why my site doesn’t preach abstinence. This is a fair point, and I’ll address it briefly here.
The original intent of this site was to help people quit drinking, once and for all. But I’ve come to realize that some people CAN have a couple of drinks and still remain in control. Some people can’t do that, and it’s simply better for them to completely abstain.(please read: Quitting vs Cutting Back).
Thus, most of the articles on this site simply try to help you cut back drinking to the point that it becomes “no big deal” whether alcohol is available. YOU get to decide whether quitting OR cutting back is best for you.
This website has evolved to the point where I am simply trying to help people get their lives back under control. For one person that might mean to cut back from 6 drinks every day to just a couple. For another person it might mean not drinking at all. Only you can decide the right way to go.
The only thing I can tell you is that habitually drinking MORE than a couple of drinks a day is a BAD idea. It is guaranteeing that your life will be a constant struggle against full-blown alcoholism.
Abstinence Doesn’t Fit Everyone
For those out there who can have a drink or two each day, and stay in control, you have my admiration. It shows a lot of self-control to be able to do that, especially in this day and age.
However, please be careful. Drinking is a very slippery slope, and the first thing that disappears after a drink or two is good judgment. At this moment you might say “yeah, I can stop after one or two drinks”, but what about when the time comes to actually stop? If that is hard for you then you should QUIT once and for all. ♦
