Here are 5 essential daily habits that will help you fight alcoholism. These habits will help your body heal itself from past alcohol abuse, and move you in a much healthier direction.
Essential Daily Habit #1: Drink Plenty of Water
Your body requires water for nearly every, single function it takes – from digestion, to carrying nutrients to each cell, to elimination. Amazingly, you can actually survive for weeks without food, but only a couple of days without water. Get in the habit of starting each morning by drinking a tall glass of water, and then at least 3 or 4 more glasses throughout the day.
It’s important to remember that only WATER IS WATER. Coffee, tea, soda, juice, etc, etc, do not count! Plus, many people misinterpret a normal thirst as a craving for alcohol – when, in fact, thirst is actually your body craving WATER. Drinking plenty of water each day not only gives your body what it needs to function, and helps heal the damage from alcohol abuse, but it can often directly reduce the desire for alcohol.
Essential Daily Habit #2: Eat Plenty of Food
Nearly all alcoholics admit to skipping a meal – or eating much less than normal – when their normal drinking time approaches. However, this is something that you should avoid at all costs, because skipping a meal actually opens the door to alcohol abuse. You must make sure you eat 3 or 4 MEALS (not snacks) each day.
Most importantly, filling your stomach up with food – especially just before the time when your temptation to drink is at its highest – is the single, most effective way to reduce cravings for alcohol. I’ve written about this before, referring to it as The Eating Trick, because you are effortlessly tricking your body into rejecting alcohol!
Essential Daily Habit #3: Take Vitamin Supplements
The need for recovering alcoholics to take vitamin supplements is a known fact. If you’re not sure, read this or this. I’m not talking about cheap, synthetic vitamins like Centrum or One-a-Day, but high-quality WHOLE FOOD vitamins (please note, I receive no compensation of any kind for these links).
By the way, don’t be fooled by recent media reports that vitamins are useless. The study in question tested only synthetic vitamins, which are not absorbed properly by the body. You should take organic, whole-food vitamins each day, along with a B1 supplement and cod liver oil. (article continues below)
