Wouldn’t it be great if there was a magic wand we could wave to make problems like alcoholism go away? So much heartache and misery would simply disappear overnight, and so many minds and bodies could finally begin to heal. Millions and millions of people would finally begin to FEEL alive and happy again, now that alcohol was no longer dulling their senses, or wreaking havoc in every area of their lives.
Some people continually look for that one “miracle answer” to suddenly appear before their eyes, instead of facing up to the reality of their situation. They’d much rather spend each day wishing for that miracle to appear (while drinking and getting drunk, of course) than be forced to DO something about their problem.
No, there may not be a magic wand to make alcoholism go away – but there IS something you can do that is almost as effective. It can help you take that first step towards sobriety. It really WILL help you beat alcoholism. It’s called changing your behavior.
Change Your Behavior to Overcome Alcoholism
Your ability to quit drinking alcohol comes down to your willingness to change your behavior – nothing more, nothing less. Ultimately, if you want your life to BE different – then you need to DO things differently than you did before. You are going to have to CHANGE your habits if you truly wish to become sober.
The good news is that you don’t have to radically change your habits overnight. You can take smaller, easy-to-achieve steps first. And as long as you continue to take a baby step towards sobriety you will continually move yourself in a healthier direction.
Plus, I’m willing to bet that YOU ALREADY KNOW what you have to do to get your life back in order. You already know what changes need to be made, what things you need to start doing, and those that you need to stop. You already know WHAT to do … you now need to simply DO it. What are one or two small steps you can do RIGHT NOW to reduce your dependence on alcohol? They can be as simple as not drinking around your kids, or not drinking before dinner. Think of one SMALL thing you can do RIGHT NOW to reduce your dependence on alcohol.
